As a self-described “network of changemakers,” the SEAN-CSO Communications Team would like to express our deep concern regarding the recent political developments in Myanmar.
On 1 February 2021, the military engaged in a coup, seizing power from the democratically elected members of the National League of Democracy (NLD). Since then, they have attempted to squash retaliation by shutting off internet access and phone service and detaining activists and outspoken leaders. Many civilians are on the run and in danger of unlawful detention, torture, and unjust trials.
We believe that to be silent in these times is to be complicit in injustice. We have a moral obligation to stand with the people of Myanmar and victims of oppression worldwide.
In solidarity,
SEAN-CSO Communications Team
